ORCHESTRA CONDUCTOR SOUGHT!
The Takoma Mandoleers are seeking an experienced and dynamic leader to serve as Music Director and Conductor for the orchestra. The orchestra was founded in 1923 and plays a varied repertoire focusing on early 20th-century mandolin-guitar orchestra pieces, as well as classical and contemporary pieces written for mandolin-guitar orchestras. Weekly rehearsals are held in Arlington on Tuesday evenings. In addition, the orchestra gives several concerts throughout the year. Orchestra members are volunteer amateur musicians who are serious about playing well. They share a passion for the mandolin-guitar orchestra family of instruments, for playing music together, and for the friendships they have forged. Compensation is offered for this position.

The Mandoleers: A Mandolin and Guitar Orchestra in the Finest American Tradition performing in the Washington D.C. Area. Founded in 1923,by Herman von Bernewitz, in Takoma Park, Maryland as “The Takoma Mandoleers” and rehearsing and performing every year since then. Our rehearsal site is in Arlington, VA.
Our instrumentation includes the mandolin (for first and second mandolin), mandola, mandocello, guitar (classical/nylon string), and double bass.
